BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After outstanding performances at the Indiana Invitationial over the weekend, Hoosier senior Rachelle Boone has been selected the Big Ten womens track and field Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 9.
Boone, who is an eight-time All-American at IU, qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60m and extended her undefeated streak at the 24-team meet. She ran a 7.26 in the semifinals and a 7.27 in the finals of the 60m dash en route to the victory. Boones time of 7.26 set a new Gladstein Fieldhouse record. On Feb.1 at Illinois, Boone set a U of I Armory Track record in the 60m.
In addition to her win in the 60m, the Norfolk, Va., native also finished first in the 200m and ran a pair of NCAA Provisional times, 23.85 in the prelims and 23.91 in the finals race. After a month of competition this season, Boone has yet to lose in either race.
She currently owns the third-fastest time in the nation in the 60m (7.26) and the fifth-best in the 200m (23.65).
The IU mens and womens track and field teams return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, at the Cannon IV Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
