Selected Athletes to Compete in Alex Wilson "Last Chance" Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Selected athletes from the Indiana mens and womens track and field teams will compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational Last Chance Meet at Notre Dame University on Friday and Saturday in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Meet.
For the Hoosier men, Chris Powers and Stephen Haas, who have both provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet, will run in the 5,000 meters race. Haas clocked a time of 14:06.29 on Feb. 13 at the Tyson Invitational. Powers season-best of 14:13.27 came in the same race. He is the school record holder in the event with a time of 13:59.35 at the USTCA Collegiate on Feb. 9, 2002.
David Neville will take his shot at automatically qualifying in 200 meters. Neville ran his best time of the season (21.14 converted) at last weekends Big Ten Championships. The time currently ranks No. 27 in the country. The NCAA automatic qualifying time is 20.85.
After throwing a career-best 17.80m/58-4.75 in the shot put at last weekends Big Ten Conference Championships, Ryan Ketchum looks to better the mark this weekend. The distance, which is an NCAA provisional mark, ranks 35th in the country heading into the Last Chance weekend.
Russell Hollis will compete in the 800 meter run at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Hollis best time of the season in the 800 meters is 1:54.56. The NCAA automatic time is 1:48.30.
Five individuals and a relay team will represent the IU womens squad this weekend. Audrey Giesler will run the 5,000 meters on Saturday. Gieslers season best in the race is 17:02.77, which she ran at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 13.
Coming off a season-best at the Big Ten Meet, Lauren Chesnut will compete in the triple jump. Chesnuts current season-best of 12.66m/41-6.50, was set on Feb. 29, and ranks No. 36 nationally. The NCAA automatic distance is 13.30m/43-7.75.
Jean Schaffer and Christina Archibald will compete in the high jump. Schaffers career-best jump is 1.74m/5-8.50 and was set at the Hoosier Open on Jan. 10, 2004. Archibald cleared 1.69m/5-6.50 at the Big Ten Championships. The NCAA automatic height is 1.84m/ and the provisional height is 1.77m/5-9.75.
The Big Ten Champion 4x400 relay team of Stacey Clausing, Michelle Huber, LaDonna Ray and Charlene Maddox will attempt to qualify for NCAAs. On Feb. 29 in the Big Ten finals, the quartet clocked a time of 3:41.80, narrowly missing the NCAA provisional time of 3:41.20. The automatic time is 3:35.70.
Indiana already has mutliple athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships on March 12-13 at the University of Arkansas. Junior sprinter Ara Towns will likely compete for the IU womens team in the 60 meter dash. Towns was the runner-up at last weekends Big Ten Conference Meet with a time of 7.34, which ranks 12th in the country. The mens distance medley relay team comprised of Eric Redman, David Neville, Rodney Hollis and Sean Jefferson, owns the nations third-best time (9:31.26 on Feb. 14). Sean Jefferson is entered in the mile, as he sports the 8th-best time this season (4:00.83).
