Chesnut Breaks Own School Record in the Triple Jump at Alex Wilson
SOUTH BEND, Ind. Selected Indiana track and field athletes competed at Notre Dames Alex Wilson Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. Lauren Chesnut bettered her own IU triple jump record and Ryan Ketchum (shot put) and David Neville (200 meter dash) both acheived new career bests in their respecitve events.
Ketchum set a lifetime best in the shot put, exceeding his previous best by more than two-and-a-half feet. Ketchum placed second with a throw of 18.56m/60-10.75. It marked his second NCAA Provisional throw and would move him into the top 20 in the nation, according to the national lists entering the weekend.
Neville won the 200 meter dash and set a new personal record. Neville clocked a time of 21.08, which is a NCAA Provisional time. Neville would also move into the top 20 in the country with that time, according to the national list coming into this weekend.
Chesnut triple jumped 13.04m/42-09.50 to improve on own school record (previously 13.02m) and win the event. The distance also meets the NCAA Provisional standard and puts her into the top 20 nationally, according to the latest national list.
Christina Archibald cleared 1.73m/5-08.50, a new personal best, and placed third. Jean Schaffer placed seventh after clearing 1.63m/5-04.25.
Andrea Dalla Rosa threw 15.04m/49-04.25 in the shot put to earn an NCAA Provisional mark and achieve a new season best. Dalla Rosa placed second in the event.
Russell Hollis competed in the Wilson 800 meter run and finished 12th with a time of 1:52.78.
Indianas womens 4x400 relay team of Michele Huber, Charlene Maddox, Stacey Clausing and LaDonna Ray placed third with a time of 3:42.52.
The NCAA Indoor Championships is schedule for March 12 and 13 at the Unviversity of Arkansas. Entry lists should be finalized on Monday evening.
