Freshman Vera Neuenswander is one of three Indiana track and field athletes to travel to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. She documented her first day for IUHOOSIERS.com. Neuenswander also helped senior Kiwan Lawson document the day in photos.

Okay, so let me first say that when you're traveling to the NCAA Championships for the first time, it's hard to get some sleep the night before you leave! That's partly because of the anticipated competition, partly because you're nervous that your alarm won't go off and partly because the IU plane we were going to be flying on is a tiny eight seater ... oh MYYY! However, my alarm did go off, and we did manage to make it safely to Fayetteville, Ark. The only thing left to worry about is the meet itself. The main thing right now is to try and stay relaxed, since I don't actually vault until Saturday at 5:30.

Once we got to Fayetteville, we headed to the track (which I should say is amazing). It's crazy walking into that place and knowing that every athlete you pass is one of the best in the country. Anyway, Coach Wiseman (or as we love to call him, `the Wise') had me do a light warm up and a few accelerations to loosen up my legs. I did a few straight pole drills and rock backs just to get a feel for the track and the pit, and a couple pole runs. I felt good and strong warming up, so all in all, Coach and I agreed it was a good shake out.

The Wise and Coach Fleming and I went and got some dinner. Now I'm back in the room, getting ready to relax a bit more and then hit the hay. I'm really trying to just enjoy myself and take everything in. This experience is something I've dreamed of forever since I knew what it meant to go to the NCAA Championships. I know that's cliché, but I'm really just blessed to be here!
