    Go Hoosiers!

    March 9, 2007

Freshman Vera Neuenswander is one of three Hoosiers competing at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. She will compete in the women's pole vault tomorrow. Neuenswander documented her second day for IUHOOSIERS.com.

So it's day two in Fayetteville, and I'm feeling pretty good. This morning we started off with a pancake house for breakfast, which nearly became lunch because the service was so slow. But hey, I got my pancakes, so I'm not complaining!

Around noon, we headed out to the track for a little shake out. Coach (Jake Wiseman) had me do a light warm up and a few strides, and that was all. We ate subs for lunch, and then headed back to the hotel for a little down time.

Kiwan (Lawson) jumped today so we went to the track to watch him jump. The men's pole vault was going on at the same time, so of course that was awesome to watch. After the vault finished up, we went to a place for steaks for dinner. I always have steak the night before a meet, so naturally we went searching for the best steak in town ... We didn't find the best steak in town, we found the best steak in the WORLD. One word for that steak ... FAAAAN-TASTIC.

So I'm back at the hotel now. I'll probably call my parents and then get some sleep. Tomorrow will be the biggest day of competition I've ever experienced. What an experience it will be. Nothing matters when I step out on that track tomorrow. It doesn't matter that I'm seeded thirteenth. It doesn't matter that I'm only a freshman and that I have never been to an NCAA Championship. Nothing matters. It's anyone's for the taking tomorrow. I'm just pumped that I get the chance to step out and do my very best. God has blessed me thus far, and no matter what happens tomorrow, I'm thankful for the opportunity to compete at the national championships for the best school (GO HOOSIERS!), for coaches who care, for a family who loves me, for my God who gives me strength, and for the chance to give it my all!
