Gainesville, Fla.— The Indiana men’s and women’s track and field teams opened its spring season at the 2004 Florida Relays with highlighted performances coming from David Neville who finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.83, Ryan Ketchum who finished second in the discus throw with a personal best of 52.52m (172-04.00) and a fourth-place finish from long jumper Aarik Wilson who jumped 7.49m (24-07.00).

In Friday’s sprint events on the women’s side, Ara Towns ran well, as she made a regional qualifying time in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.78. Towns sits at sixth-place heading into tomorrow’s finals.

Prior to today’s competition, two Hoosiers, Wil Fleming and Andrea Dalla Rosa, competed in the hammer throw on Thursday. Fleming hurled a personal best mark of 58.12m (190-08.00), good for a fifth-place finish. Dalla Rosa took 13th-place after she heaved a 42.83m (140-06.00).

On the men’s side Neville picked up right where he left off in the indoor season.
Neville’s time in the 200-meter (20.83) was a regional qualifying standard time and is also the fourth-best time in school history. On top of his performance in the 200-meter, the Merrillville, Ind., product also placed seventh overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.16.

After red-shirting the indoor season, Wilson proved he still has what it takes to place among the best in the jumps competition. Wilson leaped 7.49m (24-07.00) in the long jump, putting him in fourth-place. Freshman Kiwan Lawson made his debut in the outdoor season and finished 11th overall with a jump of 7.09m (23-03.25). For the women’s team, Jennifer Cobbina finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.87m (19-03.25).
