Tuscon, Arizona -- The Hoosier Track team started the outdoor season at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State University Friday and Saturday.
IU sophomore Lorraine Dunlop finished second in the 100m with an 11.83 and placed fifth in the 200m in 24.61. Junior LaToya Turner won the 100m hurdles in 14.51 and ran just in front of Dunlop in the 200m, placing fourth at 24.56. Freshman Tia Trent showed no signs of being nervous, gaining an eighth place finish in the 400m (55.16).
In the field, junior Cori McLeod and freshman Melissa Banton finished sixth (1.59m; 5-2 1/2) and eighth (1.54m; 5-0 1/2), respectively, in the high jump. Sophomore Maria Fleischmann reached 11.81m (38-9) to grab second in the triple jump and then covered 5.28m (17-4) to take seventh in the long jump.
The throwing trio of sophomore Jennifer Brown, freshmen Krista Keir, and freshman Heather Colyer continued to excel. Keir, Colyer, and Brown went two (14.84m; 48-8 1/4), three (14.57m; 47-9 3/4), and five (14.38m; 47-2 1/4), respectively in the shot put. Keir and Colyer took the top two spots in the discus. Keir marked at 50.38m (165-3) and Colyer threw 49.52m (162-5). It was Brown and Colyer going seven, eight in the hammer throw with marks of 41.30m (135-6) and 40.44m (132-8), respectively.
