    BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—
The Indiana men’s and women’s track and field teams finished up action at the inaugural Indiana Relays on Saturday afternoon with both teams taking home first-place honors. The men’s team outlasted Central Michigan and Indiana State with a total of 167.50 points. The women’s competition was much more intense and came down to the wire. Heading into the last race (4x400m relay), Indiana was down 176-173 to Central Michigan. The Hoosiers had to put together a stellar performance in order capture the win. The relay team, consisting of Michele Huber, LaDonna Ray Charlene Maddox and Stacey Clausing not only won the race, but also earned a regional qualifying mark with a time of 3:42.14 to help the Hoosiers win by one point, 182-181.

In addition to both teams winning the meet, three more Hoosier individuals were added to the regional qualifying list, which now brings the team total to 17.

Head Coach Randy Heisler said he was pleased to see such a good turnout at such a big event for IU Athletics.

“I am really happy with the way things turned out,” said Heisler. “All of the high school coaches seemed pleased with the way things were run too. Hopefully we can do something like this again. It is a good opportunity to showcase our facilities and our athletes to the best kids in the state.”

This weekend event also featured ten former IU Olympians who made a return to be part of this special meet.

“The Olympians returning was awesome,” Heisler added. “I know they were happy to be here this weekend and appreciated everything. I also know the kids on our team were excited to meet them. When David Neville got to meet Sunder Nix and Aarik Wilson talked to Greg Bell, that was just a wonderful thing for them.”
