Track and Field Weekend Wrap Up
April 18, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's track and field teams recorded one of the most successful weekends of the season at either the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the highly-regarded Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., April 13-16. The Hoosiers met 13 regional-qualifying standards, two NCAA provisional marks and turned in nine personal-best performances.
11 Hoosiers punched their ticket in 13 events to the NCAA Regional Meet. Here's a look at who will be competing in Knoxville, Tenn., May 26-27:
Jeff Coover (pole vault) - 5.05m (16-06.75)
Jessica Gall and Stephen Haas turned in record-setting times at the Mt. Sac Relays in the 10,000m. Both Gall and Haas earned NCAA provisional times in the event and etched their names in the Indiana record book.
Gall recorded a personal best in the grueling 10k with a ninth-place time of 34:32.36. Moreover, Gall's run moved her into fourth on the all-time best list for the event, just one spot behind teammate Lindsay Hattendorf who claimed Indiana's third-best time in history (34:27.95) at the Stanford Invitational on March 31st.
Haas turned in an impressive third-place time of 28:52.30 in the 10,000m. Haas' personal-best time moved him into second in the Hoosier record books and makes him the fastest IU athlete to run the event in 33 years.
Below are the nine Hoosiers who recorded personal bests in their respective events:
Blayne Burkholder (pole vault) - 4.90m (16-00.75)
The Hoosiers will head to Philadelphia, Pa., for the prestigious Penn Relays April 27-29. Visit IUHOOSIERS.com for the most up-to-date Indiana track and field news and results.
