Indiana Hosts Billy Hayes Invitational Friday Night
May 3, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana track and field team will host the Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday, May 4, on the Billy Hayes Track at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington.
Friday's field events begin at 4 p.m. ET with the hammer throw and long jump competitions, while running events open at 4:10 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
Four Hoosiers recorded regional qualifying marks last weekend, including senior Lindsay Hattendorf (5,000-meter run), freshman Vera Neuenswander (pole vault), sophomore Caity Lauer (800-meter run) and senior Jessica Gall (5,000-meter run).
Hattendorf clocked a personal-best time of 16:39.92 in the 5,000-meter run in the 98th running of the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium on April 26, to qualify for the regional meet. Her time ranks seventh all-time in the IU record book.
Neuenswander cleared 3.95 meters in the pole vault for a sixth place finish at Drake and the second-best mark all-time in the Indiana record book, which was also good enough to get her into regional competition.
Lauer, who just made the transition to middle distance this season, placed fourth overall in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:07.44. Her time also got her into the regional meet.
Gall competed for IU in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Stanford University on April 29. She ran a 16:40.59 in the 5,000-meter run to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet.
The IU Department of Athletics is tentatively scheduled to honor the senior class with a presentation of the senior rings at 6:50 p.m., following the National Anthem. For complete results and recap of the Billy Hayes Invitational, visit IUHOOSIERS.com.
