    MIDDLE AMERICAN CLASSIC TRACK & FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

    Bloomington, Ind. -- In the Middle American Classic, hosted by Indiana University at Billy Hayes Track at Robert C. Haugh Complex, several Indiana Hoosier competitors posted outstanding marks under cool and windy conditions.

    On the men's side, Russell Brooks placed second in the 100m at 10.50 and first in the 200m at 20.89. Brad Griggs placed second in the 400m at 47.96, while Marius Bakken and Tom Chorny placed one and two in the 1500m with respective times of 3:48.40 and 3:52.74. Mikko Simos ran second in the 800m at 1:51.82, while Jeremy Rochford won the high jump with a 6' 10.75" effort. In the shot put, Kurt Krick won with a mark of 57' 11.25" and Zach Fleming was second at 57'05.75".

    The Indiana women were led by Jennifer Brown and Sara Fedor who placed one and two in the shot put with respective marks of 46' 02.75" and 42'01.25". Kim Craig was second in the 800m at 2:13.91 and Mateja Bezjak won the javelin with a mark of 150'04.00".

    The Indiana track and field teams will have its final home competition for the 1998 outdoor season next Saturday, May 16, in the Billy Hayes Invitational on the Indiana campus.
