COLUMBUS, Ohio--Sophomores Lorian Price and Stacey Clausing provided excitement for the Indiana women's track and field team in the last day of competition at the 2005 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the speedsters captured the 100m hurdle title (13.70) and the 200m dash (21.53), respectively. As a team, the IU women finished eighth overall with 63 points. Illinois ran away with the title with 135 points, and Penn State (112.50) and Michigan (110.50) rounded out the top three. All together the Hoosier men and women earned six individual titles (four men, two women) and six second-place finishes (three men, one woman and a relay team on each side). It marked the fourth time in five years that IU men and women have won at least five individual event titles.

"Our women showed up," said director of track and field Randy Heisler. "They finished 10 points higher than we expected coming into the meet. Obviously with Stacey (Clausing) and 'Lo' (Lorian Price) winning their events was great. I couldn't be happier for them. For Stacey to come back to her home state and do so well was just wonderful for her."

Price claimed the first title of the afternoon after she took off at the sound of the gun and looked determined from start to finish. Even when the athlete sharing the lane next to Price took a spill, Price did not let it affect her as she cruised past the finish line to win the first Big Ten title of her career. She became the first female Hoosier to win the 100m hurdles since Danielle Carruthers' triumph in 2002.

"It feels good," said Price. "It is nice to come out, perform well and win the event you practice all year for. As for the race itself, it was very competitive. Each girl deserved to win this race."

After just having taken a runner-up finish in the 400m with the schools third fastest time (53.12), Clausing had her eye on the prize in the 200m and refused to be second again. She once again, posted the school's third-best time as she crossed the finish line with a winning time of 23.51. The last female Hoosier to win the outdoor conference 200m title was Rachelle Boone-Smith in 2003.

"I ran the best I have ever run today, and to win after giving my best effort in an amazing feeling," said Clausing. "My coach told me before I ran to get a good start from the block and my chances of winning would be in my favor. I did just that."

Also turning in a notable performance was junior Larra Overton, who captured third-place honors in the 1500m. Overton finished with a career-best 4:24.94.

Both IU relay teams turned in impressive performances as the 4x400m relay squad consisting of Michele Huber, LaDonna Ray, Charlene Maddox and Clausing, took home a second-place finish with a time of 3:39.46. The 4x100m team of Price, Ara Towns , Kyndal Carr and Zakiya Robinson ran to a third-place finish after clocking in a time of 46.23.

The Hoosiers will have a week of rest before hosting the 2005 NCAA Mideast Regionals on May 27-28 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
