    BILLY HAYES INVITATIONAL TRACK & FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

    Bloomington, Ind. -- In the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University at Billy Hayes Track at Robert C. Haugh Complex, several Indiana Hoosier competitors posted outstanding marks under beautiful weather conditions.

    For the Indiana women's team, Lorraine Dunlop placed second in the 100m at 12.10, while Kim Craig and Anne Marshall also placed second in the 1500m (4:42.77) and 3000m (10:27.56) respectively. Nathalie Belfort was the top collegian in the high jump placing second with a jump of 5'10.75", behind Dedee Nathan's (Indiana Track Club) with the same who won with fewer misses. Maria Fleishmann also was second in the triple jump (39'04".0) and Jennifer Brown was the top collegian in the shot put placing second with a mark of 49'11.25", behind Connie Price Smith's (Adidas) best of 59'00.25." Jennifer Kamtz set a new personal record in the hammer throw at 156'00.00" (47.54m). Her old mark was 47.40m.

    The Indiana men's squad received some bad news when sprint specialist Russell Brooks pulled up at the 130m mark in the 200m event with a hamstring injury. His status will be known better by mid-week.

    In the men's shot put, Kurt Krick and Zach Fleming placed third and fourth respectively with marks of 57'07.00" and 57'01.00." Krick also placed fifth in the discus (173'07.00"). High jumper Jeremy Rochford along with Purdue's Andrew Leininger were the top collegians with third place marks of 6'08.00."

    The Indiana track and field team travels to Ohio State to compete in the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend starting on Friday, May 22 and concluding on Sunday, May 24, 1998.
