BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana track and field sprinter Ara Towns earned first team All-Big Ten honors in addition to being named IU's Sportsmanship Award Honoree following her 100m title at the 2006 Big Ten Outdoor Championships at Michigan State's Ralph Young Track and Field Complex.

Towns collected her fourth conference accolade of her career and her first in an individual event. The Hampton, Va., product took home the 100m crown with a regional-qualifying time of 11.61. She turned in an 11.54 performance in the prelims to push her through to the championship heat.

Towns also competed on the fifth-place 4x100m relay team (46.26) and took seventh in the 200m finals with a time of 25.03.

Additionally, Towns was named Indiana's Sportsmanship Award honoree. Towns earned All-Big Ten honors in 2003 as a member of the championship 4x100m relay team and two accolades as a member of the first-place 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams in 2002.

After a week off, members of the Indiana team, including Towns, who met regional standards throughout the season will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., May 26-27 for the Mideast Regional meet.
