May 23, 1999 TRENT WINS, TEAM FINISHES SEVENTH
West Lafayette, Indiana-- The IU women's track and field team finished seventh at the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Purdue Friday through Sunday.
IU freshman Tia Trent grabbed the spotlight by winning the 400m Big Ten Championship in 53.69 seconds. Trent's time is an NCAA provisional mark and is .01 off her personal best. Trent also anchored the women's 4x100m relay team that took second in 3:43.93. Junior LaToya Turner also scored twice Sunday. Turner ran a 13.66 in the 100m hurdles to finish third and followed that with fourth place in the 200m (24.36).
Freshman Maria Fleischmann garnered the best Hoosier finish in the field Sunday. Fleischmann took third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.71m (41-8 1/2). Freshman Krista Keir and junior Cori McLeod grabbed fourth in their respective events. Keir threw 50.70m (166-4) in the shot put, while McLeod high jumped over 1.67m (5-5 3/4).
