June 11, 2009
Three Hoosiers are competing on Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. They are senior Tiffany Howard in the shot put finals, junior Molly Beckwith in the 800-meter semifinals and junior Wendi Robinson in the 10,000-meter finals. Make sure to check back for updates as the Hoosiers finish competition.
Howard took ninth place for the first All-America honors of her career. Her heave of 16.04 (52-7.5) makes her the seventh outdoor All-American in the shot put for the IU women's program. She is first outdoor All-American in the event since Katrin Koch won the NCAA title in 1992. She is the seventeenth All-American in the shot put for Indiana including indoor competition. Howard was just four inches out of scoring a point for the Hoosiers.
Beckwith was unable to qualify for the 800-meter finals, running a time of 2:04.87. She took seventh in her heat, finishing less than a second out of fifth and the final qualifying mark. Beckwith will return to competition at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 24-28.
