SACRAMENTO, Calif.— In the fifth day of competition at the 2004 Olympic Trials, Indiana graduate assistant coach Rose Richmond just barely missed making the Olympic team when she placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.56m (21-6.25).

Richmond finished behind Marion Jones (1st-place-7.11m.23-4), who broke the stadium record, Grace Upshaw (2nd-place-6.77m/22-2.50) and Akiba McKinney (3rd-place-6.57m/21-6.75). However, only Jones and Upshaw earned a spot on the Olympic Team as they met the qualifying requirement of 6.70m (21-11.75).

Aarik Wilson was also in action at the Olympic Trials on Thursday. The NCAA Outdoor runner-up in the triple jump finished 14th-overall with a leap of 16.09m (52-9.50), just missing the final round, as only the top-12 advance.
