The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their All-Academic awards on Aug. 6. Indiana's track and field teams received eight recognitions for the 2007-2008 school year. Three IU student-athletes received their second career All-Academic honors, and the women's track and field team received recognition as a team.

Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer said, "We want our student-athletes to have a combination of athletic and academic success. We feel that achievement in the classroom is a big step in building our program the way we want to."

The women's team was recognized as a 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team for the third straight year. The Hoosiers were one of eight Big Ten teams to be recognized, and the team's combined grade point average of 3.288 trailed only the Golden Gophers of Minnesota in the conference. No other conference in the country had more than eight teams receive the recognition.

The women's team GPA was certainly supported by five individual honorees. Senior Abbie Stechschulte, juniors Caity Lauer and Wendi Robinson and sophomores Faith Sherrill and Vera Neuenswander were each named to the 2008 USTFCCCA Division I Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team. For Stechschulte and Lauer, this is the second consecutive year to be honored for their scholastic achievements by the USTFCCCA. This is the third straight season in which Indiana has had five honorees from the women's team.

On the men's team, senior Ryan Smith and freshman Andy Weatherford were named the 2008 USTFCCCA Division I Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team. For Smith, this is his second honor, as he was an All-Academic selection in 2006 as well.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
