BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer has announced his program’s schedule for the 2009-10 season. Highlighting the indoor slate is a Jan. 16, 2010, matchup with the rival Purdue Boilermakers. The dual meet will mark the first time the two teams have gone head-to-head in the sport since 2004. The outdoor schedule will see the Big Ten Outdoor Championships come to Bloomington and Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on May 14-16.

Helmer feels that the 2010 schedule will not only provide his team with meets to get excited about, but it will also provide Indiana an opportunity to unveil the new Billy Hayes Track.

“Getting the chance to run a dual meet against our most natural rivals, Purdue, is something that our athletes and coaches are really looking forward to,” said Helmer. “Also, hosting the Big Ten Championships during the outdoor season will coincide with the renovation, that is just beginning now, of Billy Hayes Track, and it will provide us with a great opportunity to put our new and improved facility on display.”

The indoor season will see Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse host meets for the first six weeks of the season. The Hoosiers will also compete at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame on Feb. 5-6, the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 12-13 and the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on March 5-6. The men and women will split up for Big Tens on Feb. 26-28. The men will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., and the women will head to University Park, Pa.

During the outdoor campaign, the Hoosiers will compete at the Alabama Relays on March 26-28, the Louisville Quad Meet on April 9-10, the historic Penn Relays on April 22-24 and the Jesse Owens Classic on April 30-May 1. Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex will play host to the Indiana Invite on April 17 and Billy Hayes Invite on May 7.
