Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana University womens track and field head coach Randy Heisler has announced the signing of Kristin Whitezell (Hanover Park, Ill./Glenbard North HS) and Stacey Clausing (Saint Marys, Ohio/Memorial HS) to national letters of intent. Whitezell, who will compete in both cross country and the distance events, and Clausing, a sprinter, will join the Hoosiers next fall.
Whitezell recently completed her senior cross country campaign by finishing fourth at the Illinois Class AA meet. As a junior, she turned in a third-place performance at the state meet in the mile. She has also recorded times of 2:15 in the 800m and 5:03 in the mile.
With the success of our cross country team this year and the fact that all of our runners will return next year, Kristin will be able to step in to a very competitive group. She will help our programs in both cross country and track and field continue to develop and pursue championships, Heisler said.
Clausing posted a time of 55.08 in the 400m dash in her junior season, a mark that leads the state of Ohio heading into her senior season. In the 200m event, she has also turned in an impressive 24.70 time. Clausing was also recruited by Kentucky, Purdue, Miami-Ohio and Michigan.
Stacey brings maturity and commitment to an already strong Indiana team, Heisler said. Shes the kind of student-athlete that would enhance any program and we are very excited to have her join our family.
