    STORRS, Conn. – The Indiana volleyball team opened the 40th season of IU Volleyball with a straight set victory, winning 25-21, 25-14, 25-11 over Central Connecticut State to begin play in the UConn Classic.


    Senior Morgan Leach and junior Amelia Anderson led the offensive attack for the Hoosiers. Leach connected for 10 kills on 18 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage. Anderson also tallied double-digit kills with 11.


    Sophomore Megan Tallman registered 36 assists and junior libero Courtney Harnish recorded 16 digs in the three set match. Tallman also recorded 10 digs for the double-double.


    The Hoosiers recorded 12 blocks for the match, led by sophomore Jazzmine McDonald with five and junior Awele Nwaeze with four. Nwaeze also had six kills and sophomore Allison Hammond came in, in the third set to record three kills on five attempts.


    The Hoosiers trailed 4-9 in the opening set, but used a 10-4 run with back-to-back kills from Leach to give IU a 14-13 lead. CCSU would battle back and tied the set at 20-20. The Hoosiers responded and scored five of the last six points and Leach ended the first set for IU with a kill to give them a 25-21 set win.




    Central Connecticut State got off to another fast start in the second set and led 7-1. After multiple errors by CCSU and back-to-back service aces by Anderson, the Hoosiers jumped to a 15-12 lead. The Hoosiers used an 11-0 run to go up 20-12 and closed out the set 25-14 with blocks by Nwaeze and Leach and a CCSU attack error.


    The Hoosiers dominated the third set as they hit .480, compared to .000 for CCSU. Setter Megan Tallman spread the ball around with nine different players recording a kill in the set and Tallman collecting 11 assists.  


    Up next the Hoosiers take on New Hampshire tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. as they continue play in the UConn Classic. The Hoosiers will finish the tournament with a match against host Connecticut at 7:30 p.m.
