Hoosiers Down Rutgers in Three

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball (2-0) knocked off future Big Ten foe Rutgers (1-1) in straight sets, getting great play from Morgan Leach and Jade Henderson. Leach and Henderson both added nine kills, with Leach adding five blocks while Henderson hit .615 on 13 swings.
Indiana hit .337 as a team and held the Scarlet Knights to .057 on 87 swings. The Hoosiers had 15 blocks compared to nine for Rutgers. IU had five players with six or more kills, with Jordan Haverly adding seven and Amelia Anderson and Awele Nwaeze getting six apiece. Nwaeze had four blocks as well. Caitlin Hansen added 11 digs, and setters Megan Tallman and Katie Gallagher added 16 and 14 assists respectively.
After splitting the first two points of the match, Indiana pulled away steadily to a 25-16 win in set one. IU got four kills on four swings from Henderson in the set and Kyndall Merritt added four digs. Anderson added two service aces in the set.
In the second, Indiana fell behind 4-7 before putting together a 9-1 run. Up 13-8, IU battled the Scarlet Knights, who closed the gap to a 19-19 tie. The Hoosiers won six of the next eight points to take the set. Leach had four kills on five swings and Nwaeze was a perfect 3-0-3 in the set. Hansen added six digs in the set.
The third set was the most competitive of all as no one led by more than two until IU broke a 19-19 tie with a 6-1 run. The Hoosiers got three blocks in that stretch from Morgan Leach, who had four in the set. The Hoosiers denied the Rutgers attack six times in the set, with five Hoosiers partaking in the swat party. Henderson added four kills in the set.
