Hoosiers Fall in First Five-Setter of Season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball (5-2) suffered its second loss of the season, falling 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 16-25, 15-13) to Stephen F. Austin. Jordan Haverly led the way for Indiana with 23 kills in a match that never saw the IU offense get on track.
Haverly finished with her fifth double-double of the season, adding 18 digs to her 23 kills. IU also got 11 kills out of Morgan Leach in the match. Samantha Thrower had nine blocks for the second time this season. IU had six players finish with double-digit digs.
The LadyJacks came out hot, leading 16-8 in the first set before IU could mount a rally. SFA took the set 25-20. Leach had five kills in the set on six swings.
Set two saw IU not hit much better, but get the W. The Hoosiers won 25-23 behind five kills from Haverly. The IU defense limited SFA to a -.030 hitting percentage in the set.
Set three was very similar with IU taking a tight 26-24 win. Haverly had six kills in the set and hit .316 in the frame. The Hoosiers still only his .068.
The fourth set was all SFA, as they stormed out to a 21-9 lead before taking a 25-16 win. Haverly had four kills and Kyndall Merritt had seven of her 16 digs in the set.
The fifth set saw IU storm out to a 10-3 lead before the momentum shifted. SFA took the set and the match with a 15-13 win, outscoring the Hoosiers 12-3 to close the match. IU got five kills from Haverly and hit a match-best .296 in the set.
