IU Falls to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana volleyball team fell to 8-7 (1-2 Big Ten) on the season after a difficult match against #18 Ohio State. The Hoosiers could not overcome their first ranked opponent of the season, as the Buckeyes claimed the 3-0 (30-26, 30-20, 30-22) victory.
Individually, senior outside hitter Rachel Gerling tied for third on IU's three-game match chart with eight total blocks. Meanwhile, freshman middle blocker Erica Short led Indiana with 11 kills, while freshman setter Laura Holm posted 33 assists.
IU hung tough with the Buckeyes in the first frame, but wound up being out-hit .378-.267, in a closely-contested 30-26 loss. The win put OSU up 1-0.
In the second stanza, the Hoosiers continued to struggle against the Buckeyes. Even though IU's defense stepped up to hold OSU to .281 hitting, the Hoosiers could not overcome the Buckeyes in the 30-20 loss.
Ohio State closed out the match, 30-22, in the final game, which featured a defensive battle. While IU held the Buckeyes to a scant .053, Indiana could not get its offense going as they hit -.081.
Next up, the Hoosiers play #4 Penn State at 8 p.m., on Saturday night.
