Hoosiers Fall in Five-Set Heartbreaker to No. 12 Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball (8-12, 0-9) fell in a heartbreaker to twelfth-ranked Purdue (17-3, 6-3) in five sets (13-25, 32-30, 23-25, 25-23, 15-6). IU got double-doubles from Kelci Marschall (14 kills and 10 digs) and Whitney Granado (39 assists and 10 digs). IU also had double-digit kills from four players, including Marschall, Samantha Thrower (12), Kristen Seaton (11) and Ivie Obeime (10).
In the first set, the Boilers jumped out early and kept rolling, with the Hoosiers only getting comfortable in the final minutes of the set in a raucous atmosphere in Holloway Gymnasium.
In the second set, Marschall got the Hoosiers off to a fast start and finished it off in a back and forth battle. Both teams saw four set points in the match, with IU getting four in a row, followed by four for the Boilers before IU won three straight points, capped by a Marschall kill. IU got eight kills from Marschall in the set, and Seaton added five, while Thrower had four. Caitlin Cox had seven of her 19 digs in the set.
The third set was very close, much like the second, with the Boilers winning 25-23. IU finished the set with five blocks, getting three from Thrower.
The fourth set saw the Hoosiers lead by as much as five and controlled from he very start. IU earned four match points taking a 24-20 lead. Purdue clawed back to 24-23 before IU sealed the set with a huge swing from Ivie Obeime, her 10th kill of the night. Obeime and Thrower had four kills in the set.
In the fifth, Purdue jumped out early, taking a 5-1 lead and never looking back, taking it 15-6.
