Hoosiers Fall 3-0 To No. 20 Purdue On Senior Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team battled in the early going before falling 3-0 to No. 20 Purdue on Senior Night at the University Gym in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers fell 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 to drop to 9-21 on the year and 1-18 in the Big Ten. Purdue moves to 19-11 overall and 10-9 in conference play.
Morgan Leach paced the Hoosiers’ attack with 12 kills for her 15th double-digit of the season. The junior hit .333 on the night, connecting on 12 terminations in 21 attempts. Amelia Anderson added 10 kills and a block assist, while Awele Nwaeze recorded seven kills and three blocks. Megan Tallman handed out 22 assists and Caitlin Hansen tallied a team-high 15 digs.
The Hoosiers faced a 5-1 deficit in the opening of set one, but IU climbed back within one point at 8-7. Indiana clung to that one point score differential until 13-12 until the Boilermakers finished out the frame 12-4 to take it 25-17. Leach hit .667 in the set with two kills and Haverly terminated three with an assist and a pair of digs.
Set two ended 25-22, but the Hoosiers battled throughout to force seven tied scores including a late deadlock at 21-all. Haverly connected with a kill to make it 24-22, however Purdue eventually escaped with a 25-22 taking of set two to push ahead to a 2-0 lead. In that game, Leach reached six kills on 10 attempts with a block assist, while Nwaeze earned four terminations as well as a pair of blocks.
After starting the final set down 10-4, the Hoosiers rallied back with a 7-0 run to make it a one-point game at 12-11. After a Purdue timeout, the Boilermakers outscored Indiana 13-8 to deal IU a 3-0 loss. Anderson led the way for the Cream in Crimson with her five kills, while Tall added eight assists.
The Hoosiers will return to U-Gym for their season finale with No. 23 Michigan on Friday, Nov. 29. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
