    Volleyball Honors Seniors at Year-End Banquet

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team held its annual end of the year banquet on Saturday, January 11, celebrating the careers of seniors Caitlin Hansen, Jordan Haverly, Jade Henderson and Melanie Hicks. Each of the four seniors gave senior speeches to family and friends of the program in attendance. End of the season awards were also given and a 2013 highlight video was presented. Head Coach Sherry Dunbar and the voice of Indiana Volleyball, Pierce Cavanaugh, served as guest speakers.

    First-year players were presented with letterwinner gifts, as Mariah Coleman, Allison Hammond, Taylor Lebo, Jazzmine McDonald, Awele Nwaeze and Megan Tallman earned their letter jackets. Second-year members Amelia Anderson, Katie Gallagher, Courtney Harnish and Kyndall Merritt were awarded IU letter blankets, while junior Morgan Leach and redshirt sophomore Chante George were given framed “I” awards. The senior class received their senior rings as well as a framed jersey.



    The Hoosiers also recognized its Big Ten award winners. Jade Henderson was honored for her Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and seven members were acknowledged for their Academic All-Big Ten accolades, which included Katie Gallagher, Courtney Harnish, Jordan Haverly, Caitlin Hansen, Jade Henderson, Morgan Leach and Melanie Hicks.

    Several other honors were handed out that evening as well. Caitlin Hansen was selected by her teammates as the recipient of the Player’s Inspirational Award, an honor bestowed upon a student-athlete that demonstrates the most passion on and off the court and inspires their teammates on a daily basis.

    Hansen was also presented with the Hoosier Army ROTC Leadership Award by LTC Tim Hoch. This award is given to Hoosier Scholar-Athletes who demonstrate through exceptional leadership the ability to elevate the performance level, morale and cohesion of their team.  Commitment, selfless service, sacrifice and a never quit attitude are at the core of their character. Whether in practice or a game, in the classroom or on the court, this Hoosier Scholar-Athlete is trusted, respected and admired for their willingness and ability to lead.

    Jade Henderson took home the Coaches Award to close out the evening. Selected by the coaching staff, the Coaches Award is given to the player who best exemplifies the character on which the foundation of our program has been built and maintained.
