ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team (1-1) was defeated by No. 3 UCLA on Saturday in their second game of the Michigan Kick-Off. The two teams battled closely for the majority of the contest before a four-goal fourth quarter run separated the Bruins.

The Hoosiers were led in scoring by sophomore Shae Fournier with two goals. The freshmen trio of Alexis Jones, Colleen McNaught, and Shelley St. Omer Roy added one apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff had eight saves in the cage on 30 UCLA shot attempts.

The Bruins opened the game with a quick long range goal just 11 seconds into the action to take the one goal lead before McNaught answered for Indiana 20 seconds later. The Dana Point, Calif. native drew an ordinary foul and rifled in the goal to tie things up at 1-1.

UCLA took another one goal lead midway through the quarter as a shot hit Wyckoff and skidded into the cage.

The Hoosiers used a 6-on-5 opportunity for the equalizer as Fournier converted from straightaway after an assist by freshman Summer Creighton with 27 seconds left in the quarter.

The Bruins scored the first two goals of the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead. Jones responded for the Hoosiers by firing a shot past the UCLA goalkeeper quickly after drawing an ordinary foul near the five meter line to cut the deficit to one with less than a minute remaining in the half.

As the Hoosiers looked to have momentum on their side heading into the break, UCLA came up with a timely backhand in the post with three seconds left to go up 5-3.

Fournier notched her second goal of the contest late in the third quarter off a Shelby Taylor assist to pull the Hoosiers within one. Fournier finished the game with a pair of steals and five field blocks, to go along with her two scores.

UCLA added the final third quarter goal and gained control in the final period with four straight scores to seize a 10-4 lead.

St. Omer Roy added her first collegiate goal with 22 seconds left to round out the scoring in the contest for the Cream and Crimson.
