SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
Despite another hot start, No. 11 Indiana gave up a few late goals and let the University of California San Diego come away with the 10-7 win in their third game of the Aztec Invitational at the Aztec Aquaplex.
Despite the loss, redshirt senior Jakie Kohli moved into second on Indiana's all-time scoring list with 226 goals for her career. Kohli, who scored two in the Hoosiers match against UCSD, passed Krista Peterson with 224. She needs 21 more goals to reach first place currently held by Kristin Stanford.
Colleen McNaught scored the first goal of the match on an early power play, and Kohli followed up soon after. Shelby Taylor scored off an impressive skip-goal and the Hoosiers took a quick 3-1 lead in the first quarter.
The lead didn't last long, as the Tritons were able to tie it up for the remainder of the second and third quarters.
With four minutes left in the match UCSD found a break and scored, giving them a 7-6 lead. Before Indiana could regroup, the Tritons added three more and clinched the win 10-7.
The trio of Kohli, McNaught, and Taylor had two goals each for Indiana and middle Rebecca Gerrity added one. Goalie Jessica Gaudreault had seven saves.
Indiana will face Cal State Northridge at 12:30 pm PT.
