Two Hoosiers Named Player, Defensive Player of the Week for the Third Straight Week
Feb. 13, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the third week in a row, two Indiana water polo players have earned Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors from the CWPA. Senior Shae Fournier earned top nods from the conference while teammate Shelby Taylor's efforts on the defensive side of the ball were rewarded.
Fournier tallied 15 points and 13 steals at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif against some of the top competition in the country. Her nine-goal weekend puts her four goals away from breaking CWPA Hall of Famer Kristin Stanford's all-time scoring record at IU.
With a pair of goals, two assists and six steals in a 10-6 upset over No. 8 San Diego State University, Fournier led the Hoosiers to their first top-ten victory of the season. Fournier, who also moved into a tie for second-place on the Hoosiers all-time assist list over the weekend, has now collected 17 Player of the Week laurels in her career. She set a conference record with 10 weekly awards during the 2011 season.
Shelby Taylor played shutdown defense, collecting four steals to go with 10 points to earn the February 10 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award. Taylor collected her first career weekly accolade for the Hoosiers.
Indiana has claimed all three Western Division Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week awards this season with Allison Campbell claiming the February 3 POW honor and Candyce Schroeder taking the January 20 accolade. Goalkeeper Jessica Gaudreault recorded the first two Defensive awards.
