Shelby Taylor Named CWPA Player of the Week
April 18, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's Shelby Taylor was named CWPA Player of the Week for the week of April 11-18 the Conference just announced. Taylor's stellar defense propelled Indiana to their second straight Western Division Title, and helped earn them a No. 1 seed for next weekend's CWPA Championships.
Taylor scored six goals this past weekend while competing in Ann Arbor, Mich. Her best game came against No. 16 Hartwick, the Hoosiers biggest threat to repeat their reign as division champions. Taylor scored three goals against the Hawks, but perhaps more importantly, she shut down reigning CWPA Player of the Year, Sami Capparelli, holding the center without a single goal in the match.
Taylor's defense has become a major strength for the Hoosiers this season. Shelby was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 13 after playing shut-down defense collecting four steals to go with 10 points during the Triton Invitational.
This is the first ever Player of the Week award for Taylor, and the second over-all weekly award. Shelby joins teammates Shae Fournier, Candyce Schroeder, and Jessica Gaudreault who have all earned the honor this year.
