May 28, 2013
GATINEAU, Quebec - Indiana junior Shelby Taylor scored one goal for the Canadian club team The Renegades to help secure the 22U National Club Water Polo Championships on Sunday with a 9-8 win over Team Saskatchewanat at the Centre sportif de Gatineau.
Hoosier senior and 2013 season leading scorer Shae Fournier was on Team Saskatchewan and was named Tournament MVP for her efforts.
The championship match was an extremely close back-and-forth battle with never more than one goal separating the two teams.
`'This was definitely the closest final I've played in,'' said Taylor, the Renegades team captain. `' It was a serious team effort. It was an exciting win for us, especially since we were defending our title. This was the last 22U for a lot of the girls so it was definitely a special victory for that reason.''
Both Fournier and Taylor were named to the Tournament All-Star Team. Kelsey Jensen of Saskatchewan was named the most valuable goalie and John Csikos of Calgary the most valuable coach. All star team members were McKee, Taylor, Christmas, Fournier, Taylor Vijh of Dollard and Sarah McIlveen of Ottawa.
