KAZAN, Russia. - Three Hoosiers helped the Canadian National Team to a 11-10 win over Italy Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the World University Games in Russia.

Canada (1-0) was lead by Indiana's 2013 leading scorer Shae Fournier. Fournier netted six goals in the match, tying her single-game record at IU. All six goals were scored in the second half.

Indiana sophomore Jessica Gaudreault got the start for Canada in goal and recorded 19 saves. Junior Shelby Taylor added a goal in the second quarter for the team as well.

"We wanted to focus on playing as a team... making sure we reacted to the defense they were playing," said Fournier. "This is great momentum for us moving forward in the tournament."

Canada will be back in the pool Monday to take on Russia at 8:00 PM local time (noon EST).
