Nov. 22, 2013
GATINEAU, Quebec - The Canadian National water polo team has announced Indiana senior Shae Fournier and sophomore Jessica Gaudreault will be on the roster for the 2013 edition of the women's water polo Canada Cup to be held at the Centre Sportif de Gatineau, in Quebec, from December 2-8.
Fournier, an All-American, is on pace to break all of Indiana's water polo recorders during her senior season. She is currently fourth all time in career goals (220), fifth in assists (127), and fourth in career steals (132). She tied the Indiana record for most goals scored in a match with six against Notre Dame College last season. She led the team in every statistical category but assists with 66 goals, 38 assists, 62 steals, and 35 field blocks.
Gaudreault is one of only two goalkeepers named to the roster. She was named to the 2013 CWPA All Conference First Team and earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 18). Last season, she started in all 27 matches played and had 199 saves on 602 shot attempts. She only allowed 195 goals the entire season, while racking up seven assists and 15 steals in 805:00 minutes played.
The group includes 14 players who will face the US and Australian National teams during the tournament. This is a major event to set up for other international competition preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Both Fournier and Gaudreault competed for the Canadian National Team in the World University Games this summer.
