BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Head coach Barry King and the Indiana women's water polo program announced the signing of a pair of student-athletes that will join the Hoosiers for the 2013 season. The class features utility Erin Pannek (El Cajon, Calif./The Bishop's School) and center Candyce Schroeder (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS).
ERIN PANNEK (El Cajon, Calif./The Bishop's School)
Pannek has competed at a varsity level each season for The Bishop's School in La Jolla, Calif. She earned a starting spot on the squad during her sophomore year. Pannek, a 2010 Junior Olympics All-American, was an Olympic Development Program member from 2008-2010 for Pacific Southwest. She earned the 2007 Maureen O'Toole Sportsmanship Award. She helped lead her 16 & under San Diego Shores Water Polo Club to a second place finish and was named an All-American First Team Spare.
Coach King on Pannek:
"Erin will provide depth for us at the center defender position. She brings an incredible intelligence and patience to the position. She will use these traits to gain more confidence on the offensive end."
CANDYCE SCHROEDER (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS)
Schroeder helped lead San Clemente High School to the 2011 CIF Championship, earning CIF Player of the Year honors in the process. She was also named League MVP, Second Team All-County, and First Team All-Southern California. In 2010, Schroeder collected South Coast League MVP honors and earned spots on the First Team All-CIF and Second Team All-County. She was also a 2009 First Team All-South Coast League selection, as well as Second Team All-CIF. Schroeder competed for SET Water Polo Club where she was a three-time Junior Olympic All-American (2008-2010).
Coach King on Schroeder:
"Candyce will fill a big need for us in the primary center position. She has worked very hard at improving her offensive skill set. She has the potential to be a dominant force for us in the middle."
