    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Sarah Pease finished ninth as the Indiana women's cross country team opened the season with the Indiana Invitational on the IU Cross Country Championship Course in Bloomington on Saturday, Sept. 8. The meet marked the first for the Hoosiers under head coach Ron Helmer.

    Pease led Indiana with a ninth place finish and a time of 19:01 in the women's 5K. Junior Kristina Trcka finished 15th with a time of 19:33, while sophomore Jenny Kulow followed in 22nd with a time of 19:54.

    Also competing for the Hoosiers were seniors Maura Ratcliff (23rd, 20:08) and Lauren Keefe (25th, 20:12), freshman Natalie Goolik (26th, 20:14) and junior Sarah Bieliski (29th, 21:05).

    Michigan's Erin Webster won the 5K with a time of 17:38. Ball State's Ali Bishel led the Cardinals with a fifth place finish and time of 18:24 and Brittany McDuffee was the top finisher for IUPUI (21st, 19:53).

    The Hoosiers are back in action on Friday, Sept. 14 when they compete at the Indiana Intercollegiates, which will be held in West Lafayette, Ind.
