Oct. 4, 2008
STILLWATER, Okla. - Redshirt junior Wendi Robinson placed fifth out of a group of 218 runners in the women's 6K race in a personal-best 21:02 to lead the IU's women's team to a seventh place finish (189 pts.) at the 72nd Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Pease was the second Hoosier to cross the finish line behind Robinson in 21:57 for 17th place in the women's race. Freshman Chelsea Blanchard clocked a time of 22:20 for 33rd place. Senior Kristina Trcka finished 62nd with a time of 23:00, and freshman Kaylan Comer brought up the Hoosier top five in 42nd place with a time of 23:14.
"Wendi had a very good and solid run," IU cross country and track and field head coach Ron Helmer said. "Sarah really had a breakout day and probably had one of her best runs yet. With a tough field, she just ran really well. Chelsea took another step forward today. The good thing is now that we've had good, solid races from this group, we're starting to get more consistent.
"Knowing that if we scored just four points less, we would have finished in fifth place," Helmer added. "With pretty good teams out here today, we really had a good run."
Redshirt junior Caity Lauer placed 84th with a time of 23:33 and freshman Breanna Ehrman recorded a time of 23:40 to finish in 91st.
The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they get their first look at the site of the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., at the Pre-Nationals meet. The event is slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET at LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
