Robinson Earns a Trip to NCAA's, Hoosiers Finish Fifth at Great Lakes Region Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Redshirt junior Wendi Robinson paced the Indiana women's cross country team to a fifth place finish with a team score of 145 points at the 2008 NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships at the Varsity Cross Country Course in West Lafayette, Ind. Her performance earned an automatic trip to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 24.
Robinson finished in fourth place finish among a field of 227 runners in 21:03.9. She was followed by redshirt sophomore Sarah Pease in 13th place with a time of 21:40.2. Freshman Chelsea Blanchard crossed the finish line in 22:05.0 to take 33rd. Senior Kristina Trcka finished 44th with a time of 22:22.9 and redshirt junior Caity Lauer wrapped up IU's top five in 51st place with a time of 22:28.9.
"Across the board, the women did a great job, especially Wendi and Sarah who were outstanding," IU head coach Ron Helmer said. "Wendi was very controlled and we get a national qualifier out of her performance. Sarah probably put in one of her best runs of the season today."
The NCAA will announce at-large berths for the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 17. The national meet will take place at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
