Larra Overton's Cross Country Diary
Aug. 30, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind-Senior Larra Overton sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to update us on the first two weeks of practice.
As the first day of classes neared, we enjoyed our final weekend before classes with a long run through the scenic "Rail Trail" on Saturday morning. The two things that excited me the most are the dynamic team chemistry and the great experience and leadership the team has. The rookies are a perfect fit for the group. The freshmen have already adopted nicknames, a sure sign of great team camaraderie. It's always interesting to get a feel for the team as the season begins, and this team is definitely one of the most dedicated and focused groups I have worked with in my five years at IU. Our experiences at the national level will benefit the team tremendously as we head into big meets and face national competition.
As classes begin, everyone is attempting to settle into a routine and get adjusted to a new semester. Monday, our first workout on the course once again demonstrated the necessity of hill workouts weight training, and lots of freezing cold ice baths. Of course, that's what being a Hoosier distance runner is all about, doing things the Indiana Way, with heart, strength, and guts.
