Hoosier Cross Country to Host Indiana Community 5K
Aug. 30, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University cross country teams open their course to the Bloomington running community as they host the Indiana Community 5K Friday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
The race gives the community a chance to experience IU's world-class facility first-hand and also run with the team. The course will be the site of the 2006 Big Ten Championships and has held five national cross country meets, as well as the conference meet on four other occasions. The University of Louisville will also be competing with the Hoosiers.
"Last year was a great experience for local runners, the team and alumni to run a course that has hosted the NCAA meet five times," IU women's cross country head coach Judy Wilson said. "It's one of the most, if not the most, challenging courses in the country."
The Hoosiers return two-time All-American and two-time qualifier Jessica Gall for her final season at IU. Last season, the All-Big Ten selection finished ninth in the conference, 32nd at the national meet and competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000m.
The Indiana Community 5K kicks off a season that includes three other meets hosted by the Hoosiers, including the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Oct. 29. IU will host the Indiana Open on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., and will follow with the Indiana 4K Championships on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
