Hoosier Cross Country to Host Indiana Open
Sept. 7, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana cross country teams will host the Indiana Open on Saturday, Sept. 9 on IU's world class championship course. The women's 5K is scheduled for 10:45 a.m., following the men's 8K at 10 a.m.
The Hoosiers will compete against some tough competition in Butler, Huntington University, Michigan and Purdue. The Wolverines finished sixth at the 2005 NCAA Championships and ended the season ranked third in the Women's FinishLynx Top 30 Poll.
Last weekend, Indiana opened its course to the Bloomington running community for the IU Community 5K. The race drew 75 runners, including the University of Louisville. Sophomore Stephanie Greer was the top finisher for Indiana with a time of 19:16, and was the second finisher on the women's side in the combined race.
The Indiana Open is just one of four meets hosted by the Hoosiers this season. The schedule is highlighted by the return of the Big Ten Championships, which will be on Sunday, Oct. 29. This year marks the first time since 1996 that the league championship meet has been held in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will also host the Indiana 4K Championships on Saturday, Oct. 21.
