BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's cross country team is set for its second meet of the season when it hosts the Indiana Open on Saturday, Sept. 9. The 5K is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. and puts the Hoosiers up against Butler, Huntington, Michigan and Purdue.
IU COMMUNITY 5K A SUCCESS, GREER FINISHES AS TOP HOOSIER
The annual IU Community 5K meet gave anyone from the community a chance to run with the Hoosiers and take their shot on one of the most difficult cross country courses in the state on Sept. 1. Among the 75 participants, sophomore Stephanie Greer was the top finisher for Indiana with a time of 19:16, and was the second finisher on the women's side in the combined race. She was followed by redshirt sophomore Kristina Trcka (19:31.00), junior Maura Ratcliff (20:30.00), junior Jackie Davis (20:43.00), and redshirt freshman Bliss Cook (21:02.00).
IU TAKES FIRST ROAD TRIP TO 68th INDIANA INTERCOLLEGIATES
After spending the first two weekends of the season with meets at home, the Hoosiers hit the road next weekend and head to the Indiana Intercollegiates in Terre Haute, Ind. on Friday, Sept. 15.The meet features competition from schools all over the state of Indiana, including Ball State, IPFW, Indiana State and Purdue.Last season, IU claimed the title of the Intercollegiates with a team score of 63, while Purdue (98) and Ball State (118) placed second and third, respectively. Sophomore Wendi Robinson led the way for the Hoosier pack finishing fourth in the 5K with a time of 18:16.
IU TO HOST BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the first time in 10 years, the IU Cross Country Championship Course will be the site of the Big Ten Championships, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 29. The women's 6K race is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. The Hoosiers finished fourth last season at Big Tens with senior Jessica Gall leading the way with a time of 21:30.14 for ninth.
INDIANA TO COMPETE IN FIRST ANNUAL BILL DELLINGER INVITATIONAL HOSTED BY OREGON
Indiana will compete in the inaugural Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon. The 6,000m race is slated for Friday, Sept. 29 on Pre's Trail at Alton Baker Park in Eugene and is set to begin at 8:20 p.m. Eastern. The meet at Oregon will replace the Murray Keating Invitational, hosted by the University of Maine, on Sept. 30. The invitational will host some of the top cross country teams in the nation, including four-time NCAA champion Brigham Young, Butler, Duke, two-time NCAA champion.
