Cream and Crimson Recap (9/10/04)
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- In just its second meet of the 2004 season, the Indiana women's cross country team went head to head with the Ball State Cardinals on Friday evening. The meet, which featured a 4k run, was close from start to finish but in the end, it was the Cardinals that pulled off the 27-28 victory.
Junior Kelly Siefker was the top finisher in the race, clocking in at 14:12.00. Ball State's No.1 runner Jill Scully, who was also last week's MAC Runner of the Week, took second place in 14:18.00. Senior Mindy Peterson (3rd-14:33.80) and sophomore Kristin Whitezell (5th-14:40.10) rounded out the top five for the Hoosiers.
Head coach Judy Wilson was pleased with everyone's performances overall.
"We ran really well tonight," said Wilson. "I thought Kelly in particular did a great job. I told her to see what was happening around the 1k and go from there. She ran an awesome race."
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 when they take part in the Indiana Intercollegiates. The meet will be held in West Lafayette, Ind., and is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m.
