Sept. 13, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's cross country team will travel to the 68th annual Indiana Intercollegiates on Friday, Sept. 15, in Terre Haute, Ind. The 5K race is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
The Hoosiers placed five among the top 16 runners last weekend at the Indiana Open 5K, including All-American Jessica Gall, who finished second in a career-best 17:40. Gall's time is the sixth-fastest on the IU Championship Course. Rounding out IU's top five was senior Lindsay Hattendorf (18:10, fifth), sophomores Wendi Robinson (18:18, seventh) and Stephanie Greer (18:40, 11th), and freshman Kellee Lemcke (19:01, 16th).
Indiana has taken the last three Intercollegiates titles, with Robinson leading the Hoosiers with a fourth place overall finish last season in Bloomington. The Hoosiers scored 63 points in last year's event, defeating Purdue (98) and Ball State (118).
IU enters this weekend's race ranked No. 29 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Poll. This week's poll is led by top-ranked Stanford, with Colorado at No. 2 and Big Ten rival Michigan rounding out the top three. The poll includes six Big Ten teams, including No. 6 Illinois, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 15 Iowa and No. 16 Minnesota.
Following a week off next week, the squad will head northwest for the inaugural Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene. The meet will host some of the top teams in the nation including USTFCCCA-ranked teams Arkansas (No. 8), Brigham Young (No. 5), Duke (No. 7), Oregon (No. 30), Wake Forest (No. 28) and Washington (No. 21).
