    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - IUHoosiers.com will take a look at this year's newcomers on the Indiana women's cross country team. Next up is freshman Jordan Gray.

    Gray recorded personal-best times in the 400 (57.23) and in the 800-meters (2:17) at Livingston High School. The Berkeley Heights, N.J., native was a first team all-county, all-area and all-region group II. She earned most outstanding conference performer and the June 2008 Athlete of the Month at Livingston. Gray was a member of the Athletics Honor Society and placed ninth to earn all-state honors in the 400.

    Gray holds the school record in the 400, 800 and 4x400-meter relay. She also set the conference record in the 800 and was a seven-time letterwinner in track and a three-time honoree in cross country.

    1. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
    I would love to go to Greece. I have heard that it is beautiful.

    2. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
    I see myself happily married with a family and teaching special education.

    3. Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
    My parents and my high school coach have definitely been my biggest influences. My parents have provided unconditional support in everything I do through out my life and always believe in me. Coach Somma has supported me through the years and has always pushed me to the point where I could achieve success on the track.

    4. What is your favorite childhood memory?
    I used to be a dancer! I took dance classes with my best friend up until my sophomore year of high school, I have so many great memories from classes, recitals, and competitions.

    5. Something that many people don't know about you is:
    Many people don't know that I don't like chocolate.

     

     

    6. The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
    I really admire Molly Beckwith, she is a really hard worker with such a high level of determination. She will do whatever it takes to become better. She has a very outgoing personality and is very approachable. I hope by the time I reach the point in my career where Molly is I can be the type of runner and teammate she is.<

    7. Name one thing that you wish you were better at?
    Singing! I am a terrible singer!

    8. What makes Indiana special from any other program?
    Indiana's program is really special for all that it has to offer. The support academically and athletically is incredible. The team is also really supportive of each other and there are so many opportunities for you to succeed as a student athlete at IU.

    9. What do you like best about Coach Helmer?
    What I like best about Coach Helmer is that he is really supportive and understanding. He supports you throughout your workouts and with your goals for the season. He understands that everyone trains differently and alters workouts so they best benefit each person.

    10. What are your goals for this year?
    I am really hoping to improve my times in the 400 and 800.
