Minneapolis, Minn. - Facing a field that included 11 programs ranked among the Top 30 in the nation, the No. 21 Indiana women's cross country team finished 15th at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis.

Head coach Judy Wilson felt that her runners faced a tall order when it headed north this weekend.

" I knew this year's Roy Griak meet would be quite different than last year's. This year's field was somewhat tougher," Wilson said. "Kelly (Siefker) saw international competition last year, and Larra (Overton) really came on competitively at the outdoor (track and field) Big Ten. That is helping them a great deal this fall."

Indeed, Siefker and Overton, along with Julie Shields, turned in two of the Hoosiers' more impressive performances on Saturday. Siefker was Indiana's fourth runner and 103rd overall with a 6K time of 22:38. This is 32 seconds faster than her time at last year's Roy Griak.

Shields nearly matched Siefker's improvement, as Shields crossed the finish line in 22:49, 31 seconds better than last year's time. Overton's time of 23:00 is 19 seconds faster than her finish at last year's meet.

Senior Audrey Giesler was once again Indiana's top finisher with a time of 21:40. Junior Mindy Peterson was second for the Hoosiers and 74th overall (22:15), while freshman Kristin Whitezell continues to establish herself among Indiana's top three as she was 87th overall in 22:24.

Indiana will sends some of its runners to the Indiana State Invite in Terre Haute next weekend, and some others will head to the Notre Dame Invitational.
