SETTING THE SCENE
The women's race includes Arizona State, Belmont, Bradley, Eastern Washington, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Lamar, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Oklahoma, San Diego, San Francisco, South Dakota State, UC Santa Barbara, Utah Valley State, Virginia, Washington State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Xavier.
The Hoosiers get underway in the Jack Johnson Women's Gold 6K race at 1:55 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT
Pease clocked a personal best time of 18:08.08 to finish sixth for the Hoosiers in the women's 5K out of a field of 162 runners. She was followed by senior Maura Ratcliff who placed 19th with a time of 18:45.52.
Freshman Natalie Goolik crossed the finish line in 18:56.98 to take 28th, junior Caity Lauer placed 30th with a time of 19:07.35, senior Lauren Keefe took 41st with a time of 19:12.18 and junior Sarah Bielski rounded out the Hoosier pack in 86th with a time of 20:19.09.
PEASE PACES HOOSIERS AGAIN
Sarah Pease led the Hoosier pack for a second consecutive meet as she crossed the finish line in a personal-best 18:08.08 to take sixth at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Sept. 14.
In her first meet of her career, Pease led Indiana with a time of 19:01 for ninth at the Indiana Invitational on Sept. 8.
HOOSIERS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE
THE HELMER ERA BEGINS
Helmer was promoted to director in July 1999 after serving as associate head coach with the Hoyas for seven seasons and assistant coach for the five years prior. During his tenure, 120 of his student-athletes earned a total of 342 All-American recognitions, including 41 student-athletes receiving 96 certificates since becoming director in 1999. In addition, 219 student-athletes captured BIG EAST individual titles, including 67 since the start of the 1999-00 academic year.
