St. Paul, Minn. - The Indiana University women's cross country team turned in a fifth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course and hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. The Hoosiers, who had 153 points, were led by sophomore Mindy Peterson's 13th-place performance and finished just four points out of fourth-place in the 6K race.

"I was hoping we would finish in the top five and we snuck in there," head coach Judy Wilson said. "With the way we ran, we know we are capable of getting Marquette (who finished in fourth place). I didn't feel like it was the greatest race between all of the top-five teams, but it's promising for us that we did that well and didn't run our best race. I feel like this sets us up nicely for the rest of the season."

Peterson paced Indiana for the third time this season with her time of 21:35 and 13th-place finish. Junior Audrey Geisler was next for the Hoosiers, placing 15th with a time of 21:36, just behind Peterson. Peterson and Giesler's times both marked career-bests in a 6K race. Freshman Jessica Gall posted Indiana's third-best time of 21:55 to finish the race in 28th place, followed by junior Becky Obrecht's 36th-place finish (22:03).

Fellow Big Ten school Michigan State won the 20-team event with 72 points. The Spartans were followed by Arizona State (107), Providence College (112) and Marquette (149) and IU (153), in respective order of finish.

Indiana will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at both the Auburn Invite and the Notre Dame Invite
