The NCAA's top three women's teams from last year will be competing in the race. Villanova, Brigham Young and top-ranked Stanford will be at IU. Absent from the race will be number two Arkanasas, led by Amy Yoder who won the Sam Bell Invitational this year.
Six runners competed in the Murray Keating Invitational in Orono, ME while the "B" team ran in the Indiana Invitational in Terre Haute, IN last Saturday. The women placed second in Maine with 41 points and third with 76 points in Terre Haute. Next Competition: IU will run in the Big Ten Championships on October 30 at State College, PA.
Quoting Women's Head Coach Judy Bogenschutz: " I'm glad that
Amanda won in Maine. It was hard out there because it rained the morning
of the meet which made some of the spots really muddy for the girls. Our
main thing right now is to stay healthy. This is the time of the year when
the aches and pains of a season take its toll. Your anxiety is a lot higher
and you get anxious about the races. I believe that if we finish in the
top five of our region, we have a very good chance of getting an at-large
bid if we can beat some of these teams this weekend. That is why this weekends
meet is so important to us."
