Oct. 19, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana 4K Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, have been cancelled. The Hoosiers will use this weekend to prepare for the 2006 Big Ten Cross Country Championships, hosted by Indiana, on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the IU Cross Country Course.
The Big Ten Championships feature some of the best cross country teams in the nation. Currently the league boasts six men's teams and six women's teams either ranked or receiving votes in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association Poll, including top-ranked Wisconsin on the men's side and No. 3 Michigan on the women's side.
Indiana entered the season ranked 29th in the USTFCCCA poll and has battled through some competitive meets this season. The Hoosiers staked their claim as one of the best teams in the state after winning their fourth-straight Indiana Intercollegiates title with a team score of 38 points.
Senior All-American Jessica Gall heads into the championship season after leading the Hoosier pack in the last four meets. Last weekend, Gall placed seventh overall in the 6K at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. with a time of 20:29.
